Not everyone has perfect teeth. We can develop misalignments in our jaw, such as an overbite, especially when we are younger. To help you understand overbites better, we can briefly describe what some of the causes are.
An overbite can be caused by a number of things. Some can be caused by seemingly simple things we do as children. Sucking on thumbs, sucking on a bottle or even breathing through the mouth can lead to an overbite.
How can these lead to overbites? Well, when we are young, our jaws are still forming and they can shift out of alignment more easily than we might like. We hope that you understand an overbite may only occur if these things go on for longer than they should. We do not want you to think bottle feeding is bad, it just should not be overdone. As for the other potential causes, you can help your child to break any thumb-sucking or mouth-breathing habits they may have formed to help them avoid developing an overbite.
Of course, overbites are not always caused by bad habits. Sometimes genetics are responsible. They just have a slight flaw in their design that leads to a misalignment of the jaw.
